The Story of Maryam for Kids
The devout girl Allah chose and honoured above the women of the world — a beautiful story for daughters and sons.
The story of Maryam (Mary), peace be upon her, is the story of one of the greatest people who ever lived. Allah honoured her above the women of the world, and there is a whole chapter of the Qur'an named after her — Surah Maryam. It's a beautiful story to tell Muslim children about devotion, patience, and trust in Allah.
A girl devoted to Allah
From when she was very young, Maryam loved to worship Allah. She spent her time in prayer in the place of worship, and she was cared for by the prophet Zakariya. Whenever he came to her, he would find that Allah had provided her with fruit and good things — a sign of how special she was to her Lord.
Chosen and honoured
The angels said to Maryam: "Allah has chosen you and purified you, and chosen you above the women of the world." Allah had a special and wonderful plan for her — a sign for all people.
The gift of Isa
By Allah's command, Maryam was given a son, Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him — without a father, just as Allah created Adam without a father or mother. When Allah wills something, He simply says "Be," and it is. As a tiny baby, Isa spoke from the cradle to defend his mother and to declare that he was a servant and prophet of Allah. It was a miracle that showed everyone how honoured Maryam was.
