The story of Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, is one of the most told stories in the Qur'an — full of wonder and courage. It's a wonderful bedtime story for children because it shows how Allah protects those who trust in Him, even when everything seems impossible.

The baby in the basket

Musa was born at a time when a cruel king of Egypt, Pharaoh, was harming the baby boys of the Children of Israel. To keep him safe, Allah inspired Musa's mother to place him in a basket on the river. The river carried him gently — right to Pharaoh's own palace, where he was raised as a prince by the family that feared him. Allah's plan kept him safest in the very place danger lived.

Leaving Egypt

When Musa grew up, he left Egypt and lived for years as a shepherd in the land of Madyan. Then one night, near a mountain, he saw a fire — and from it, Allah spoke to him and chose him as a prophet. Allah told him to return to Egypt and call Pharaoh to worship Allah alone, and to free his people.

Standing before Pharaoh

Musa stood before the most powerful king in the world and delivered Allah's message with courage. Pharaoh refused and grew cruel. Allah gave Musa clear signs, but still Pharaoh would not let the people go. So Allah told Musa to lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt by night.

The night the sea split

Pharaoh and his army chased them to the edge of the sea, with no way across. Allah commanded Musa to strike the sea with his staff — and the water parted into a dry road, with walls of sea on either side. Musa's people crossed safely. When Pharaoh's army tried to follow, the sea closed over them. The people were free.
